Colorado Engagement Photos with Dogs

Hey Rachel, what are some of your favorite engagement photos? Let me tell you, I LOVE Colorado engagement photos with dogs. Your furry friend is the perfect addition to your engagement photos!

Bringing your dog to your engagement session can be such a blast, and I have some tips that will help make the experience fun and successful.

Let’s get started…

1. Bring treats. No matter how well behaved your dog is, when I pull out the camera, having a treat in hand will help them focus and listen to your command. I’ve had clients bring training treats or even hot dogs! Whatever your dog loves!
2. Show up early and let your dog explore. If your dog is anything like my dog, a new locations means lots of sniffing and exploring. Add a few extra minutes when they can explore without the pressure of a camera.
3. Have a plan for what you will do with them when we want to take some photos of just the two of you. There will be some times when we don’t want your dog in a photo, so what will you do with them? Can you tie them to a tree? Can you put them in the car and roll down the windows? Do you have a friend who can hold the leash or take them home? No wrong options, but find what will work for you and your dog.
4. Let me know ahead of time so I can suggest dog-friendly locations! There are a lot of beautiful locations in this state, but not all of them are welcoming to dogs. Let’s find the perfect location such as Devil’s Backbone or Arapahoe Bend Natural Area for you and your furry friend.
5. Now, this is not a requirement but will up-level your engagement photos. Think about the color and leash color! Do they clash with your outfits? Consider buying a special bandana or collar for this occasion that coordinates with you.
