Loveland family portrait photographer

Cunningham Family

Rachel did an amazing job with our family pictures! She was professional and prepared, and had scouted out the location before we arrived. She made my kids feel relaxed and did a great job capturing their true smiles and personalities.  We are planning on hiring her again next year!

Captured my family's true smiles and personalities...

Heyyy, it's me, Rachel. I'm your Loveland family portrait photographer, and I'm so excited to explore Northern Colorado with your family!

My favorite summer activity is hiking with my dog Hunter. Neither of us can handle more than 5 or 6 miles. LOL.

In the winter, I enjoy curling up a binging Netflix shows. I also started skiing (mainly greens and, if I'm feeling brave, the occasional blue).

I absolutely love exploring with families during their family session! Let's find a beautiful trail, a clear lake, a running river, or some freshly fallen snow. Perfection.

Let's get to know each other and start planning your session :)

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT SHOULD we wear for our family pHOTOS?

First off, during your family portrait photos, you want to be comfortable! When kids are uncomfortable, it can lead to more meltdowns. Make sure you are wearing clothes you like!

When it comes to colors and patterns, I have a few suggestions.

• Avoid large or busy patterns. This can cause the attention to be all on one person OR it can be distracting from your beautiful family! Try to stick to small patterns or solid colors.

• Say yes to texture. A little lace, a flowy dress, or even a fuzzy scarf can add a pop of fun to your photos without being overpowering.

•Colors - everyone has a different take on color. I LOVE color; it adds a richness and depth to your photos, but not every color is created equally. I always suggest either neutrals (tan, black, white, light pink or blue) or rich, gem colors (teal, navy blue, burgundy, forest green, or maroon). Avoid bright and neon colors because they can be very overpowering in your photos.

• Dress for the weather. Colorado’s weather is unpredictable! In the summer, shorts and dresses are comfortable, but consider bringing a light jacket for when the sun starts to set and the temperature drops. In the winter, bundle up! Bring lots of layers for you and the kids. We can always strip down, but I want to make sure you are all warm and comfy.

• Coordinate, but don’t match perfectly. Try to compliment everyone’s outfits with the colors and style, but don’t go all matchy-matchy on me :) I suggest picking a color palette to keep things coordinating.

Do you have location suggestions for our family photos?

There are so many great locations in Northern Colorado! I know some other great locations (state parks, natural areas, and even parks!) that I will share them with you as we start planning your family photos!

How many photos will I get?

With your session, you will receive a minimum of 40. I don’t put a limit on how many I will send you because I will send you all the good ones!

What makes you different from other Loveland family portrait photographers?

I get it. Getting in front of a camera can be absolutely terrifying! How do I look? What if my kids have a meltdown?

First off, you look AMAZING! Secondly, yes, your kids might have a meltdown. They might not nap on your session day. AND THAT’S OKAY! I take the approach that I will let your kids direct our session. If they aren’t feeling a certain prompt, then we won’t do it! If they need a break, then we will take a break.

My style is candid and authentic with a mix of traditional smiling poses (cuz they are just classic and great for profile pictures). Instead of giving you static poses, I will give you guys movement based prompts to get you moving and enjoying your time with each other.

No more awkward family photos :)

How can I help my toddler stay happy during our session?

• Try to have your toddler nap before our session.

• Bring candy/snacks/their favorite toy to help encourage good behavior.

• Let me know when they need a break! During our session, they can explore and play. We won’t be cheesin’ for the whole hour.

• Have a family ice cream date after your session! It gives your kids something to look forward to, and it’s a great bonding experience!

When will I get my family photos back?

You will get a sneak peek within a week of your session and the whole gallery delivered within 3 weeks.

Can I bring my dog?

Of course! Bringing your dog to your family session can be so much fun! You can see some of my favorite sessions with dogs here. Just give me a heads up so I can make sure the location we pick is dog friendly.

Where should I print my photos from?

First off, kudos to you for printing your photos! Printed family photos are so special. I highly suggest spending a little extra to order your prints or albums from professional printing companies! The quality is SOOO much better. I offer professional printing through the online gallery I send you, but you are welcome to print them anywhere because you receive a print release with every session.
