How to Prepare Your Home for Newborn Photos

Bringing your newborn home is one of the sweetest, most fleeting seasons of life , and I’m so honored to capture it for you! In-home newborn sessions are relaxed, natural, and all about documenting your family’s love right where you live. To help you feel prepared and stress-free, here are a few simple tips to prepare your home for your newborn photos!

1. Tidy Up (No Deep Cleaning Required!)

There’s absolutely no need to deep clean before I arrive – I promise! Just take a few minutes to tidy up the spaces we’ll likely use: your bedroom, living room, and nursery. Clear away extra clutter like water bottles, diaper packages, or laundry piles. A quick refresh helps keep the focus on your beautiful family, not the background.

2. Gather a Few Special Items

I’ll bring a few swaddles and baskets for your session, but if you have favorite outfits, blankets, or swaddles, set them out before I arrive. Including personal touches makes your photos feel even more meaningful and unique to your family.

3. Feed Baby Right Before the Session

Try to feed your baby right before your session starts. A full belly usually means a happy, sleepy baby — perfect for those peaceful, snuggly photos. Don’t worry if another feeding is needed during the session; we’ll take our time and follow baby’s rhythm.

4. Turn Up the Heat

Babies love warmth! Increase the temperature in your home a little before I arrive so it’s extra cozy. A warm environment helps keep baby comfortable and sleepy, especially if we do any swaddled or lightly clothed photos.

5. Expect a Slow, Relaxed Pace

Newborn sessions aren’t rushed — we move at baby’s pace. There will be time for feeding, changing, soothing, and plenty of snuggling. The beauty of an in-home session is that everything your baby needs is right there, and the photos will reflect the calm, loving environment you’ve created.
